Well I sure feel dumb

October 27th, 2013 at 10:18 pm

A few months ago I upgraded to a smart phone. I wasn't really checking the bill (bad bad bad I know).

I discovered I was being charged for insurance and phone protection (which of course they never "told" me)

A few weeks ago, I was just browsing the bill and came upon these two charges. I immediately logged online and deleted those services.

This will save $9.99 a month. DH also downgraded his DISH movie package and that should save $20 to $30 a month. He had a special they offered him for 6 months and it has now expired. He decided it wasn't worth it anymore, except I am sure he will be missing Game of Thrones when that comes back on.

Our electric bill and water/sewer bill went down also. I imagine it is because both girls are now away at college and the usage has gone down. I am not spending as much on food either.

The natural gas bill however, did go up. Obviously that is because the weather has turned colder and we had to turn on the heat.. We have a programable thermostat which we feel really helps. We were also notified that our garbage bill will be going up also but I don't know how we could save anything there. If they offered every 2 week pick up we might be able to swing that, but I think it is either every week or once a month. I definately will check into that.

Better to notice sooner than later. Which provider was charging those fees?

I was surprised to see a recurring charge for an internet game provider; missed it for four months. Signed on for a "free month" when a child was home sick and totally forgot to cancel it. But, agree with ccf, better to notice sooner than later!!

Oh not such a biggie. Smile I wonder if you could call and see if they would refund given you didn't know it was there and never made a claim???

You don't need to miss your shows just because you cut cable. We dropped cable, and now I buy my new Walking Dead episodes on Amazon for $1.99. Much cheaper than cable!

CC Free: Our cell phone provider is AT&T. I think it is pretty standard to charge those things with the smart phones. Our girls got their own plan together a while ago and I believe the same charges showed up on theirs and they had to call and cancel.

Thrift O Rama: We didn't cancel cable (we have DISH)...DH was taking advantage of a "special" they had on some movie channels like HBO, Starz ect and decided he wasn't watching them enough and that they also didn't have a big variety.

I just feel silly because I didn't catch those charges and I am usually pretty good about going over things like that!

Also don't forget to adjust your date plan to a limited budget, some people spend way too much for that and to know that they also have wifi at home is just crazy.

Good tips by the way, thanks for looking out!
