Excitement tampered by disbelief

December 15th, 2012 at 04:51 am

Today was our office Christmas party....we also received our bonus's....I was really happy and excited to receive $1400! $200 more than last year.

Our festivities were dampened by the tragedy in CT. I am in just such disbelief. You may have heard about the shooting in the mall in Portland, earlier this week? That's one of "my" malls. A day later, my great newphew's high school (across the river in the Vancouver WA area) went into lockdown due to a gun scare.

I can hardly watch the news or read the articles on the internet...it just makes me so sad.

My husband's cousin and her daughter, who live in Vancouver, were in that mall in Portland in the food court when the shooting happened. She said they had never run so fast in their lives.

I still don't have words for what happened in CT. It's just one of those things that make you stare wordlessly into space for a very long time while you try not to cry.

I used to work at CTC, and my family still lives in the area -- all of this violence really does lead to a feeling of helplessness and grief. It sure does not make me want to come back to the States any time soon, that is for sure. I'm glad that you have some insurance of a nice bonus, and hope that you can focus on the beauty of the holidays with your family. That is the most precious thing of all.
