What do you think?

August 1st, 2011 at 03:01 am

Are we headed for another recession? There was an article in our paper the other day that it looks as if we are headed that way. Personally, I am not sure I ever really believed we came out of the last one.

I know "the numbers" said we had but I can't imagine that people that lost their jobs and haven't been able to find a new one would believe it either. Frown

Honestly, I think we are in a depression, not a recession and we certainly never came out of anything. No one wants to label it as such and it's not as bad as the one in the 30's (yet), but it very much exists. It's just that enough of us are doing okay that it covers up the ones who are barely surviving. It's like it's America's dirty little secret. Everyone knows about it, but no one talks about it.

I don't know technically which we are in (or not), but I know it ain't good.

We need more jobs, plain and simple. After that, everything, like the housing market, will fall in place.

I don't think we ever came out of the last one...things don't seem to be any better and the unemployment rate has never shown any reduction.

We certainly haven't seen any sort of recovery in Sacramento (sky high unemployment, commercial vacancy rate of about 30% - forget about selling any commercial property, housing in a free fall, etc.).

I think it's going to be a long slow slog till we see real recovery. Ugh.

I am convinced that we are still in the original recession, and it leads me to question the crap (from the right and the left) that we hear in the media more and more. Unemployment is rampant, RE is in the toilet, and our country's debt is becoming owned by the Chinese. I don't think this offers us any insurance of a recovery any time soon, alas, and it doesn't make me especially anxious to come back to the States sometimes, as much as I miss it.
