Cancelled the paper

February 24th, 2012 at 02:36 am

In our quest to save money, we decided to cancel our paper. I tried to cancel and only take the Sunday (since that is our main coupon source) but they don't offer Sunday only....has to be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday so I cancelled the whole thing. We will just pick up a Sunday paper sometime on Saturday as I usually have some sort of errand to run and can just get it then. It is worth it to us to still get the Sunday for the coupons as I mentioned before. The main grocery store I shop at (Winco) does not take internet coupons so I need that paper for the inserts. Fred Meyer does take internet coupons so I can certainly use them there.

On another note, looks like our auto insurance will go down a bit too with DH's new car....looks like around $10 a month....doesn't seem like a lot but as we all know, sometimes those little amounts sure add up.

Gas for the cars will be interesting. DH's new car will definately get better gas mileage than his one before but with prices going up, up, up, maybe it will even out in the end.

Still doing well with no home phone and just using cell's.

I love saving money! Smile

We cancelled our daily paper back in July, but went back to Sunday only in November.

How much are you saving by cancelling the subscription?

$38 every 8 weeks. They used to only offer the Sunday but now they make you do Fri through Sun which is $26 every 8 weeks, plus it is going up 3/1 to $32 every 8 weeks....boo! Much better just to pick up a Sunday while doing Saturday errands.

Can you check with neighbors to share the Sunday paper? Our neighbor checks the top stories on-line and if he sees an item of interest he'll call and we drop the paper off in his mailbox.

Reminds me, I didn't feel like I saved a ton dropping the paper, but your post reminds me why we did it - they wanted to charge us twice as much or something than what we have been paying. They have been charging the same for weekend paper as all-week paper, here, forever. Then they just made us take it like Th-Sunday though we didn't want all those papers (which didn't help). If they really would just deliver Sat or Sun papers we might have been willing to pay a premium for that. At this point, rather walk to the corner store and buy what we want - far cheaper.

So far, don't miss it! I think we bought one paper since?

Always nice to see the insurance premiums lead downward instead of the other way! Very cool. That plus the fuel efficiency is a pretty good deal, especially with the increasing gas prices. Horrible.
